Pysanky Egg Workshop

Co-hosted by the Verostko Center for the Arts & the Dale P. Latimer Library
Thursday, March 26th from 3-6pm
Join our very own Instruction Librarian, Alisa Mizikar, for a creative journey into the traditional Ukrainian art of pysanky.

We’ll begin in the Verostko Center for the Arts gallery with a close look at the Pitassi Stained Glass Studio Design Collection: A Labor in Light and Lead, an exhibition of rare stained-glass design drawings that reveal the thoughtful interplay of pattern, light, and craft in visual art.

Using the exhibition full of patterns as inspiration, we’ll then head to the Makerspace to apply similar ideas of line, color, and symbolic imagery to your own pysanky creations.

All materials provided. Open to all experience levels. Free to SVC students, faculty, and staff. Donations to offset costs are appreciated.

Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 1-4pm
Free to all!
Families and learners of all ages are invited to explore, make, and imagine together through hands-on art and collaborative activities that spark creativity, curiosity, and joyful discovery!

This interactive event transforms the galleries into an active studio environment where participants don’t just look at art – they make, experiment, and explore. Inspired by works on view and guided by teaching artists and educators, visitors will engage in collaborative art-making, creative problem-solving, and open-ended activities that connect visual art with science, technology, and storytelling.

Guests can move at their own pace through a series of maker stations designed to spark curiosity and imagination. Participants will explore materials, test ideas, and create personal works while learning how artists think, design, and respond to the world around them. Activities are accessible to all ages and emphasize process over product, encouraging risk-taking, observation, and playful exploration.
This event reflects the mission of Saint Vincent College to foster community engagement and interdisciplinary learning by creating opportunities where families learn side-by-side.

Whether you stay for a single activity or spend the afternoon creating together, you’ll experience how art can be a powerful tool for connection, innovation, and discovery!

Day Without Art, 10/1/2025

Picture
On Thursday, December 4th, the Verostko Center for the Arts hosted a talk by Jeff Martin, history major and Verostko Center staff member, on “Degenerate Art” and how works are labeled, censored, and politicized. Using Dancer in Front of the Stairs as a case study, Jeff explored the forces behind artistic suppression.
The event was part of Day Without Art, observed on December 1st as a national day of mourning and action in response to the AIDS crisis. In observance, Dancer in Front of the Stairs was initially covered and then revealed to highlight themes of visibility, loss, and artistic freedom.

The (Re)cited Garden: Chinese Gardens, Memory, and Identity, 10/16/25

Picture
The Verostko Center for the Arts and the Loe Center for China Studies at Saint Vincent College were pleased to host a free public lecture by Carol Brash, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Art History at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, on the topic “The (Re)cited Garden.” Dr. Brash’s talk examined how designers of Chinese-style gardens in the United States confront the tension between historical memory and contemporary identity, weaving together art, history, and cross-cultural belonging.
